What about Peter as a human?

Hello

I am a product manager, social media strategist and technology writer based in Sydney, Australia.

This blog is a place where I discuss my passions of media, marketing and technology, diffusing my thoughts and linking to interesting developments in the evolving digital space.

What’s on this blog?

Here you will find a mixture of anecdotes and essays, my thoughts and insights at the intersection of technology, marketing and media.

Simply, I am thinking out loud about the future of media consumption and story telling. Connecting the dots on communicating and doing business in the digital age and the technology that acts as a conduit.

I am particularly fascinated by the incredible growth of news and information brought forth through innovation in mobile and the real-time web. I’m constantly exploring new ways to enable ideas and tell stories through the opportunities presented by the displacement of traditional media channels.

Who am I?

I live in and was born in Sydney, Australia. I grew up as a digital native. When I was 15 I started building and selling websites, before even Myspace existed. In high school I lead a student team winning AT&T’s Virtual Classroom project, and was awarded the life-changing experience of travelling to Hong Kong to meet with digital leaders and cultivate my skills and experiences. In 2005 I finished my studies in Visual Design, and in 2008 I completed my Commerce degree majoring in Marketing and Communications.

My passions are in technology, marketing, design and social media. Somewhat dissimilar to each other, but there is a common thread that binds them: storytelling. I’ve always been interested in stories, crawling the internet to find trends in the digital space. Subscribing to niche blogs with topics ranging from interface design, to search engine marketing and journalism. I’ve discovered and tested cool new apps and blogged about them. I was on Twitter before it was even called Twitter. I’m a quintessential early adopter, a tinkerer and an information omnivore.

This has led my career path to advertising and digital media roles, and finally now to product management. A product manager needs to be able to straddle technology and marketing to meet both user and business needs. Finally my passions meet. I’m fortunate enough to work in media where everything is in constant flux. Where innovation and reinvention are not only desired, but required. I love it.

What do I do for work?

As Multimedia Product Manager for Yahoo!7 and 7News, my mandate is to conceptualise and activate innovative digital products and multimedia strategies that connect with audiences.

Providing content strategy and a digital extension to our TV partners at Channel 7, I manage our news/video production team to provide up to the minute coverage of major news.

I am responsible for creating, leading and executing a range of social media and search engine optimisation strategies across properties, to grow and enable deeper connections with our audience.

As well as leading our news product and social strategy, I manage 7News app development and mobile content strategy. Identifying emerging digital mediums and consequent audience opportunity, bringing 7News to more devices and expanding our reach.

What else do I do?

I write on a variety of topics that would fascinate any digital product person, particularly around the topics of mobile, design, media, marketing and business.

What else?

I also have a side photography project and a personal blog where I post some random miscellany etc.
