At $1 billion net income from $3.7 billion revenue, Facebook has more profit than Google had revenue when they went public ($961M).
Say what you will about Facebook, but they are one very impressive company. A ruthless, growing profit machine.
What’s more impressive, they have not been afraid to develop and improve their product over the years, even pissing off some diehard users and critics in the process.
In these ways, Facebook is the company most similar to Apple. These two companies are not just current tech darlings or even merely the best tech companies - they are some of the best companies, ever, period.
An interesting quote from Facebook’s statement:
By helping people form these connections, we hope to rewire the way people spread and consume information. We think the world’s information infrastructure should resemble the social graph — a network built from the bottom up or peer-to-peer, rather than the monolithic, top-down structure that has existed to date. We also believe that giving people control over what they share is a fundamental principle of this rewiring.
Hello, Google.
Your move.
